FAQs

FAQ:
  • How long is the trip?
    • It's about a 3000 mile trek from San Diego CA to St Augustine FL.
  • Will you be on roads or bike trails?
    • We will cycle on Interstates. (Yes, bicycles are permitted on some of the remote areas where that's the only way you can travel.) We will cycle on highways.  We will cycle on county roads. Some good roads, some not so good roads, but the route will be low traffic.
  • What's the average daily mileage?
    • We will average about 50-65 miles a day.  I think the longest day is about 95 miles. There's a few short 40 milers day.
  • Where will you stay?
    • We will sleep in tents, hotels, schools.
  • What's the logistics?
    • It is a fully supported ride with about 40 cyclists and 10 support crew. A chef will provide breakfast and dinner.   We will have maps, laundry done twice/week, and no worries.

A photo of the Coast to Coast Team.  This was taken in the village of Sarp, France during our 2014 visit.  They still drive dairy cattle down the main road of this village and at the same time have super fast, free WiFi at this visitors Center.

A Link to Bubba's Pampered Pedalers. They Provide the Logistical Support for our Trip

One of the questions I get most often is about the logistical support for our trip.  We are part of a group of less than 40 riders who will be supported by Bubba's Pampered Peddlers.

Here is a link to Bubba's site.  You can read more about the Coast to Coast by clicking on the link, Coast to Coast once at the site.  There is a small industry of similar providers, but Bubba says he's the best, and we believe him.  Actually, Bubba hired our daughter, Maggie, to work the Bicycle Ride Across Georgia (BRAG) one summer.  She had a great time and Bubba treated her great, but made her work.

Purpose of Blog

This blog is being created to capture our Coast to Coast Bicycle Ride.

My wife, Frances Dalrymple retried from her job on October 31, 2013.  I retired from mine on November 28, 2014.  This trip is our retirement gift to each other.  We will start in San Diego, California and cycle to Jacksonville, Florida.  This trip will happen from March through April, 2015.  In order to allow our friends and family to keep up with the trip, we will use this blog to record our planning for the trip, as well as to post photos and thoughts/experiences during the ride.  I hope it will be interesting to read.  We won't be in a hurry, but will take advantage of the time to stop and smell the cacti.
