The Ride So Far

So far, our weather has been nearly ideal.  Today, as I type at Catalina State Park, it is 69 F with a light, cool breeze.  It is much warmer feeling in the sun, but I`m sitting in the shade.

To my left, Margie is giving Monica a massage.  Woody is doing some bird watching, or else he is just staring off into space.  Udi is eating peanuts.  Bruce is working on his smartphone. Bruce reloaded my Garmin GPS files after they mysteriously vanished after day 7`s ride.  Ken is eating chips and talking to everyone.  Lisa is back with her tablet from the charging station.

It was nice to have a calm morning due to today`s off day.  Normally we wake up and start packing, putting on sun block, airing up our tires, fighting for our turn at the bathroom, and working to get out on the road before the sun gets intense.  That all resumes tomorrow.  Today, our interactions are very different as we aren`t waving to each other as we pass on the bike.

Frances and I walked over to a shopping center this morning.  She bought some soap and batteries and I got a small, bluetooth keyboard which I hoped would  be easier to use than the phone.  So far its a tossup.

Maggie should be getting back to Gambier today. We spoke with her last night. She and Linea had an exciting adventure camping their way from Hnuntsville, to Nantahalla, Johnson City and a small town in West Virginia.

Im really pleased that  my Achilles has given me no problems so far. I`ve been stretching regularly, which I believe  to be helping.

Tomorrow is a short day into Tucson.

I need to remember to make a few adjustments to my bike today.  Routine stuff after 8 days on the road.  Our mechanic, Chandler (from Gainesville, FL) is at the book fair in Tucson, and I can`t get to my tools until he is back.  He would gladly do the work for me, but I enjoy doing it myself.

Today`s big excitement was a rattlesnake in camp. The ranger captured and relocated the snake to a more remote area.

Enough for today.
