Up early today for a 74 mile ride to Tombstone, AZ. We will be in a hotel tonight. Lots of folks are excited about that. I find the tent to be perfect accommodations.
We have a food bit of climbing to do today, and I look forward to that. Most cyclists dread the climbs, but not me. The climb is long with any easy 3-5 per cent grade. I'm told the views are nice today, so I've loaded a new memory card in my GoPro.
Yesterday a couple of cyclists joined our camp. Two young women are touring, self-contained, and had ended up somewhere other than where they had intended to be. Bubba invited them in to our camp and fed them, his treat.
The bike repair has made a big difference. I'm really grateful to the guys at Trek bikes in Tucson for helping me out.
My sunburns and saddle sores are ablating, and I am beginning to feel that my legs are coming into form. We'll see how things go today. Frances is riding strong and having a great time. I'm not making a lot of progress with War and Peace, and the process if sorting through job offers has hardly crossed my mind. Perhaps the long days through desolate roads in Texas will do the trick.
Today's ride was very nice. Thanks to a massive tailwind over much of the route, I did the course in just a little over four hours, despite the 3000 feet of climb.
The route was mostly on a high plateau, surrounded by the Santa Rita mountains. There was cloud cover much of the late morning and today was never hot. We're in a motel tonight and have a shirt day tomorrow to Davidson.
Went by and checked on the house today. Beth is still there but I missed her. All is well - beautiful day here 75+.
