Day 37

Opelousas to Saint Francisville 67 miles

I get grumpy riding in the rain.  I was a grumpus for part of the ride, although it was a very light rain.  We were on busy roads shoulders  for most of the day and the spray and noise were grumpified.

We rode 5 miles on a private road, Old US 190, through a swamp hunting for gators. Didn't see one grumpus gator. The road had some issues and I got off my bike some to walk over some grummy road surface.

Lunch was at a local joint, Just Out Da Bayou,  near New Roads, LA at the False River.  No, I'm not making these place names up. We sat outside on the bench and watched the bayou go by. The lunch was the best part of the day.

At about mile 53 we crossed the Mighty Mississippi.  The bridge is spectacular.

We got in about 2:30 filthy - both us and our bikes.  And three bike tubes short; I had one flat, Eddy two. The whole group ended up with about 15 flats. There was a bunch of debris on the road shoulders.

Now we are  at Mary Dale Girl Scout Camp a few miles outside of Saint Francisville. It's a rest day and
Saint Francisville is a very southern Louisiana plantation town.  Unfortunately it's forecasted to rain most of the day. And I don't want to get on my bike get grumpy again today.
