Today was not a lot of fun. We rode 74 miles on a debris-filled shoulder with heavy truck traffic. Crossing into Louisiana was uneventful as the sign marking the border was missing. The highlight was the fried chicken at Fausto's Fried chicken. Bruce and Jim joined us at the stop. Deridder is not bad, and there are a few promising restaurants in town. Our group reservation for dinner was mixed up, so we are having pizza in the parking lot of the Quality Inn.
Tomorrow is a long, 91 mile day. Hopefully we don't have to ride the entire day in the rain.
Had a great shower on the hotel that felt really rejuvenating.
Our tour mechanic has rejoined our tour. He rolled his truck twice and fractured his L4 vertebra. He's in a protective brace which he can remove for showers etc. Modern air bad technology and vehicle design are amazing.
Another rider, Woody, informed us that he has lost sight in one eye. He had been having problems since the trip started. He's going to Baton Rouge tomorrow to have a drain valve installed which will allow him to relieve the pressure. Apparently, elevated pressure in his eye is causing blood vessels to burst and resulting in the loss of sight.
On a positive note, Dean, who suffered a mild heart attack about a week ago rode for the first time today. He had a stent installed somewhere in Texas and is doing great. He's been a great cheerleader and SAG stop volunteer during his recuperation.
Tomorrow is short, 45 miles, and we're headed to Mississippi. Were staying in the Hurricane Evacuation Center, which means we'll be out of the expected rain.
I was really proud of Frances today who stayed upbeat and happy during the 87, wet miles.
